Qi Transitions of Summer 2026
Harmonising Fire with Water
Energetics of Summer of Summer 2026
May 5th signifies the beginning of Summer season in the lunar calendar. This is the growing season.
Although, this year of the Fire Horse has seen the season of Spring hesitating or moving too quickly to heat, the natural cycles follow these 3 month per season to express. When in harmony, we move from the gentle arising of seeding and warmth with spring to the vibrance of growth and heat of summer.
In Taoist medicine, summer is the most Yang active Qi season, expanding and rising in energetics, bringing forth the growth from the seeds of the plants, as well as the flourishing of your own seeds of visions and plans.
The summer is associated with the Fire Element in the natural cycle of the 5 Elements of Life.
There is a sense of light-heartedness, optimism and new connection, as we see more celebrations and gatherings during this season. The primary meridian systems corresponding to the Fire Element is that of the Heart, Small Intestine, Heart Protector and Triple Warmer.
The Fire Element wishes to illuminate and uphold peace in the world. When things get too hot, well…many of us know the intensity of forest fire season and we are seeing this increased agitation of war energetics.
Too much heat in our systems can be recognized with rashes, heart burn, agitation, over-excitation, quick tempers, confusion and a sense of feeling out of control. This is called having a fire mind, which, yes, can burn us out. The Yang energy means the days are longer, and things can and will heat up.
The Spirit of the Heart in Taoist Medicine is called the Shen. One of the animal spirits that corresponds to the Shen is the little Red Bird. The Heart provides home to this little Red Bird. We might experience difficulty sleeping, being startled or feeling a lost, when out connection to our Hearts and this little Red Bird are disturbed.
The 3 months of Fire Element of Summer is intensified with the Fire Year of the Horse and requires our extra mindful attention to maintain cool headedness and peaceful actions.
When we are awareness of the challenges, we can be better prepared, and still it can get blaze. I encouraged you to align this cycle of nature towards growth with collaboration, communication and connection and to come from a a place of peace and illumination for more openness for change.
High Heart activation practices, include Qigong playful movement, healing mantra, mudras, sound healing, joyful dance, creative contemplation and time in the natural wonders of the world. Nature heals. Commune within to align with loving-kindness in your own heart. hearts spreading loving kindness.
During this season, be aware of where your fire-mind may feel scattered, confused and conflicted. Pause into these sensations to allow new consciousness of where greater discernment and connection are needed.

Qi-Bits of Summer Season
Lightly sweating in summer is a normal response to heat, so that impurities and stagnation can be removed. Being outdoors as best as you can, with proper hydration (no icy), proper sun protection and avoiding air conditioning is important. When inside in air-conditioning, keep shoulders, arms covered, and don’t let your feet get cold.
The height of the day is the Fire Element time every day, and this would be the time to be inside, perhaps having your midday siesta. Mornings, late afternoons, evenings are the best outdoor times. Follow the rhythms of the day.
We wish to nourish and harmonize the Yang Qi, and Spirit of the Heart, called our Shen (heart/mind), allowing a healthy summer season.
