EVOLVE Qigong Summer Updates, Gratitudes and Qi-Bits

To each of you who arrive with open hearts into this Fire Element of Summer, do so with mindfulness to keep a sense of calm in the heat of it all. Our hearts wish for connections and community with celebrations of summer in abundance.

We invite the spirit of summer and the radiance of the little Red Bird, which is the precious animal that seeks sanctuary within our heart space. If nights are restless, imagine creating a safe haven in you heart to call your own little Red Bird home to you to rest.

The connections of joy and illumination are what the Fire Element brings forth and this ripples far out into our communities.

Balance postures of Qigong help us with focus and clarity which are the gifts of the Fire Element. Feeling out of control can be harmonized with Crane Qigong or simply beginning by slowly, intentionally standing on one foot.

💛Summer Heat can partner with Dampness for those lethargic, bloated, loose stool, heat rash sort of days, or partner with dryness leading to reflux, dehydration and heat stroke.

Protecting our digestion is important.

Qigong done slowly in the shade with less repetitions and more Yin quieting movements is suggested. Summer Yang is at it’s peak and must not be allowed to flame out of control, but remain a sustained flame like an evening campfire that we gather and connect around.

Fire Element of Summer helps us connect into our Hearts. The Heart seeks Peace above all else. The anxiety and chaos of daily life take their toll. Find a garden, smell the roses, put your favourite essential oil on your wrists and rub together to activate. Feel the warmth.

As the Dog Days of Summer commence July 20, and will be of shorter duration than usual, 30 days, the concentrated heat will need mindful, cooling attention.

  • Instead of ice cold food and drink, consider Qi replenishment foods, like cucumber, mung beans, lotus root, water melon, mint and chrysanthemum teas.

  • Lighter foods, lightly cooked and avoid intense spices, heavy meats and large meals. Finish eating by 7 pm for good rest. Warm, simple and light regular meals are gentle on digestion, as the excess heat is a challenge.

  • A tied bundle of fresh mint or lavender by your pillow is a fresh cooling remedy for hot summer nights.

  • Simple tummy circles upon awakening, 36 times clockwise followed by a fresh slice of ginger in hot water set and strengthen digestion.
